Laminate vs Tile

Questions You Need To Ask Yourself Before Choosing Either Tile Floor or Laminate

Which flooring, in tile floor vs laminate, should you choose for your premises? Each one has its own pros
and cons and it is upon you to choose wisely the one that will work best for you. This article provides a
breakdown of some of the main considerations you need to think about before making up your mind
when faced with the dilemma of having to pick either tile floor or laminate.

1. What is your budget for your new floor?
Just like any other project, flooring requires you to consider your financial constraints, if any, to make
sure that you will be able to complete it once you begin. You do not want to begin installing your tiles
only to run to of money when it is time to seal them. If money is a constraint to you, laminate may work
better for you since they cost less than tiles in installation. On average, laminate flooring costs half as
much as tile flooring per square foot. However, you should never rush to a decision before conducting
due diligence. Rather, compare prices from trusted dealers to get an accurate figure that works for you.

2. What is the durability of either option?
Both flooring options last relatively long, but tile is a bit superior to laminate on this regard. Once
installed, tiles are mostly susceptible to cracks arising from heavy impacts while laminate can withstand
these impacts better. The problem with laminate, as mentioned earlier, is their susceptibility to
moisture and water.

3. What area of your house do you need floored?
Laminate do not go well in areas that are prone to water or excessive moisture like in bathrooms. If you
use laminate in such areas, they tend to warp after some time prompting you to have your floor redone.
For such areas, tile floors work better since they are water resistant hence will last longer. You can mix
and match if you prefer, but do not make the mistake of using laminate flooring for your bathroom
floors or under your kitchen sink. You can use them for your bedroom and living room floors because of
very little exposure to moisture.

4. What is the ease of installation and maintenance?
It is far more difficult to install and maintain tile floors as opposed to laminate floors. For tile floors, you
have no option but to hire experienced flooring contractors to do the job for you while for laminate, you
have a do-it-yourself option. The expertise needed implies that the labor costs for tile installation are
significantly higher than that of laminate floor installation.
